Qualifications and experience

I’m a qualified teacher and private tutor based in Chepstow with 21 years’ experience as a science teacher and teacher of students with Specific Learning Difficulties. I hold Approved Teacher Status (British Dyslexia Association) and Associate Membership of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA). I also hold the National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination so would be able to assist with your wider concerns for support with your child’s needs.

Very early in my teaching career I found that I wanted to support students with Specific Learning Differences, mainly Dyslexia. I therefore trained in Special Needs and Dyslexia support. More recently I’ve seen the benefit of one to one tuition, especially to help students to prepare for exams and catch-up as a result of the impact of lockdowns.

  • I hold the following specialist qualifications and awards:

  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Science)

  • Cert. Ed. Assessment Methodology in SpLD/Dyslexia

  • Cert. Ed. Teaching Methodologies for Learners with Dyslexia

  • Cert. Ed. Overcoming Literacy Difficulties

  • Approved Teacher Status (British Dyslexia Association)

  • National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination (SENCo)

  • Associate Membership of the British Dyslexia Association

I’m based in Chepstow and can work with students in their homes or online. For your reassurance I have enhanced DBS clearance. Naturally, all copies of relevant certificates will be made available to you on request.

Outside of my teaching career I enjoy walking, climbing and guitar playing in my spare time.
